Leslie Gaduzo

New Urban Landscapes

30th October 2017

Having opened Face Frames Gallery with Leslie Gaduzo's first solo exhibition (COLLECTION OF WORKS), we are delighted to announce his return with NEW URBAN LANDSCAPES on Monday 30th October at 18:30.

The exhibition will consist of 25 new paintings which showcase Leslie's evolution as an artist, exploring composition, colour and texture with an accute eye for perspective- representationally depicting various sights, many of which are found in Gibraltar. Amazing works, many of which have been used to commemorate series of postage stamps released by the Gibraltar Philatelic Bureau.

Aaron Soleci - Solecism

Aaron Soleci

'Solecism'

Aaron Soleci opened at Face Frames Gallery on Tuesday 6th December 2016 with SOLCECISM, his first Gibraltar solo exhibition. The word Solecism has two definitions: a grammatical error or a mistake in behaviour. Soleci has used this theme to produce work of a unique and experimental nature.

Starting with a light pencil grid on card, there is a moment of meditative contemplation that precedes each process, as a radio would scan across frequencies in search of messages to be delivered- he then proceeds to create a set of self-contained elemental images that synergise into a whole.

The exhibition comprises two sections: a collection of works and the Solecisms, produced exclusively for the Face Frames Gallery exhibition. The initial inspiration for the project began whilst Soleci was reading a large amount of text for a different project:

“I wasn’t sure if I was internalising the information, so I began experimenting with grids to see if I could incorporate the information in pictorial form. Funnily enough, the experiment for a different project opened a door for the Solecism project.’’

6th December 2016

THE INDELIBLE NATURE OF BEHAVIOUR: The drawings were done directly onto board, with nothing erased, no second takes or revisions. This direct approach in creating mirrors the final and indelible nature of behaviour, through which we create and define ourselves. Drawing commences and the process is simultaneously both measured and spontaneous:

“The consequence of a situation, which was once within your control, is now out of your control, there’s no changing the past, so learn from it and move on.”

Leslie Gaduzo - Collection of Works

Leslie Gaduzo

Collection of Works

1st December 2015

FACE FRAMES GALLERY are honoured to showcase the work of Leslie Gaduzo in his first solo exhibition. Leslie was approached over a year ago, prior to having a space, when the gallery was nothing more than a few diagrams, scribbles and mind maps.

Leslie made the jump to painting full time after leaving his job as an architect a few years ago. Altough Leslie has been drawing and painting for over twenty years, his artistic career is now beginning to flourish as he hones his skill. Therefore, altough this 'introductory' exhibition is long overdue, it provides us with a unique opportunity to showcase Leslie's artistic output at a time when the artist is beginning to enter and win prestigous competitions.

This year Leslie has won Best on Show prizes at both the Fine Arts Association Summer Show and National Week Art Exhibition as well as Second Prize in the Gibraltar International Art Competition in 2013, along with numerous Highly Commended Awards in the last few years.

"I am very interested in the idea that paintings can be more than literal interpretations of what we observe. I prefer it when a painting says several things at the same time; texture, colour, tone, and abstraction, rooted in identifiable visual references that are around us every day. A different way of recording what we see, so to speak".
